Thongdee V. Kitalach

Thongdee Kitilach, age 79, of Sioux Falls, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, at his son's home, surrounded by his family. His Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2026, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, January 2, 2026 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory. 

Born in Laos, on December 4, 1946,  he lived a life shaped by extraordinary courage and sacrifice. In his prime, Thongdee completed his military medical training at King Mongkut 9 University in Bangkok, Thailand in the 60's. During the Vietnam War, he endured the hardship of being a prisoner of war for 2 years. Upon his escape, his heart led him on a dangerous journey to rescue his beloved wife and son, eventually making their way to the United States of America.

He brought his family to South Sioux City, Nebraska in June of 1991, in search of safety, opportunity and a better future. He worked many years as a laborer at IBP. After retirement, he made his home with his son and wife in Sioux Falls, SD, where he was lovingly cared for over a decade.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Roonna Kitilach, his sons, Sanaseuk (Ruth) Kitilach of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Somjai (Phetmany) Kitilach of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, a daughter, Laek Kham Kitilach, who remains in Laos, and his treasured grandchildren who were the joy of his later years.

His legacy of bravery, love, and family of devotion will live on through them.
