William L. Gallagher

William L Gallagher, 86, of Sioux Falls, passed away Wednesday November 20, 2024 at home with family by his side and in the house that he built.

Bill was born on March 23, 1938, in Humboldt, SD. He was the son of William and Viola Gallagher and the younger brother of Delbert (Dub) and Anna (Sis). He received his education in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School.

On March 25, 1960, Bill married Betty Grotjohn at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. They shared 64 years of marriage, and this marriage was blessed with four children: William H, Cindy (Dyer) Terry, and Jill (Patterson).  

Bill was employed at the United Postal Service as a mail carrier.  After retiring, Bill worked for Waterbury another 10 years before retiring from that job.  Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church.  

Bill enjoyed fishing, going to Twins games, dancing, coaching his daughter's softball teams and most importantly, spending time with his family.  He adored his granddaughter, Katelyn, and grandson, Cory, and was thrilled to be great-grandfather to Porter.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty of Sioux Falls, his children, son William of Watertown, daughter Cindy and her husband Jim of Sioux Falls, son Terry and his wife Angie of Johnston, IA, daughter Jill and her husband David of Sioux Falls, grandchildren Katelyn Gallagher and Cory Dyer and his wife Kristen and great-grandson Porter Dyer, sister Anna Carlson as well as many other relatives and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
